Velocity Wessex League Premier Division

Shaftesbury 8 (Beard 32, 38, 45, Kellaway 37, Pitman 55 ,Devlin 47, Walker 13, 73)

Lymington Town 0

Cameron Beard celebrated his 99th first team appearance for the ‘Rockies’ with a first half hat trick as the ‘Rockies’ chalked up their biggest win of the season against a Lymington Town side that is still searching for a win at the bottom of the table.

The game started slowly with a lot of possession play with only Steve Devlin rasping a shot that whistled past visiting keeper Dale Hind’s post. Without Luke Holmes there was a chance for Jake Graziano and Aaron Roberts starting and Steve Walker making his Shaftesbury home debut against his old club.

Liam Farrugia has returned from injury with Graziano playing wide showing the strength and depth of the squad. With our promotion rivals having games in hand though having been somewhat fortunate with injuries it’s important we just put points on the board.

Asa Philips and George Bennett look to be on the road to recovery and will be looking to get back into the reckoning soon. Luke Burbidge and Jim Milligan have a healthy competition for places and the quality needed to provide that.

Walker was immense here last season as part of Bemerton Heath Harlequins promotion winning side and seems to have settled into his new environment well after the 3-2 win at Petersfield Town on Saturday though wearing a protective facial mask he is a colourful character that could well provide that key element against our promotion rivals.

Devlin then whipped in one of his trademark corners and via an away defender and Steve Walker the ball ended up crossing the line after a goalmouth melee. No one really knew how, where or what but we were up and running. Walker credited the goal.

Lymington then gave the ball away in midfield and Beard broke clear like a gazelle to put us 2-0 ahead then, heading in another before completing a first half hat trick along with Graziano setting up Louis Kellaway to score his first of the campaign.

Then it was time for Brett’s goal. The former Portsmouth and Ipswich Town legend had been having a frustrating night yet thundered in his 29th goal of the season set up by Roberts to make it 6-0.

Pitman is a perfectionist and to end November with 29 strikes at any level in semi professional football is impressive as he nears Philips 34 in 2021/22 and Lee Gale’s previous records.

Claudio Herbert on as a substitute was raiding the Lymington backline with Callum Sweeney and Louis Kellaway the engine room once again providing the fuel and the bedrock of the team along with Devlin there is a lot of experience there. Skipper Ash Wells came of with seemingly a tweak with Curtis Lane on.

Pitman turned provider when he found Walker to head the ball in at the back post to squeezing it in past Hind make it 7-0. Hind was furious that referee Mr Desroches deemed it a goal protesting with his defenders.

It’s not this game his team needs to worry about. We are well aware in our history as we have been where they are currently and thrashed in Division 1 by the likes of Liss Athletic, Fleet Spurs and Farnborough North End in past seasons! I’m sure next season Lymington Town’s young team will come good. They weren’t bad players at all.

Steve Devlin then looped a header over Hind into the net to complete the scoring to set us up for the trip to Andover New Street on Saturday. Hopefully Cameron Beard can celebrate his 100th appearance with another goal as he replicates his form of the 2021/22 season when he scored 14 times.
