Cowes 2 – 2 SFC

Saturday 6th January 2024

Velocity Wessex League Premier Division

Cowes Sports 2 (Philips, Kelly (Pen)

Shaftesbury 2 (Kellaway, Satterley)

Let’s move on from this quickly and take a point and take heed this didn’t end up another Sherborne Town disaster against a team that is in form and on their own patch, a team we had defeated 4-1 in North Dorset in November, though the visitors did play their part in that game too.

No one likes visiting Westwood Park as an away team, and this was a game that had a huge banana skin on it. We’ll take the point despite AFC Stoneham winning handsomely at Bournemouth, we can only focus on what we do from now on and in truth it was a good point as Cowes have hit some real form and could be a play off contender.

It is almost bar a day the anniversary of a year that we travelled back from Pagham with a 3-2 defeat and that truly was a low point and that saw the start of a plummet down the league despite playing some good football started a losing run. We now sit top of the league and for sure AFC Stoneham, AFC Portchester and Moneyfields may win their games in hand but we face them all at home now.

Louis Kellaway and the returning Ben Satterley scored either side of Fin Philips 50th minute leveller. Connor Kelly drew Cowes Sports level again with a 75th minute penalty, and we had to settle for a point.
